Authorities are setting the record straight on alleged communications from Nancy Guthri’s kidnappers. Shortly after TMZ reported that they received an email from a person claiming to know the identities of the asalants who kidnapped Savannah Guthri’s mother, the third reported note in the case, the FBI has now deemed all three ransom notes fake.

The official, who remained anonymous to be able to discuss the details of an active investigation, tells the outlet that the agency assessed the authenticity of two ransom notes, reported in early February, days after Nancy vanished, and a third, more recent ransom note from someone claiming to know the identities of her kidnappers.

 The official also tells the outlet that the first two notes were from the same sender, although they did not explain how the conclusion was reached. E! News has reached out to the FBI for comment, but has not yet heard back. This update comes only days after Puma County Sheriff Chris Nanos, whose department has been working in tandem with the FBI since Nancy was reported missing in February, also dismissed TMZ’s alleged ransom note.

 Sharing on a local Tucson news outlet, I think the FBI has done a number of arrests for false or fake ransom notes. I think we’re looking at another one of those today with what’s been reported, but we’ll let the FBI do their work. The Puma County Police Department previously declined to comment on the letter after EN’s request, citing the case as a quote active investigation.

 E-News has also reached out to a rep for NY’s family for comment, but hasn’t yet heard back. Two letters were sent to NBC News’s Arizona affiliate Kol with the first demanding cryptocurrency for the release of Nancy. Three people familiar with the situation told NBC News. The second note did not include an apology or ask for money.
